When 67-year-old artist Debbie Augero tried online dating for the second time, let’s just say the bar was on the ground. Her most recent significant relationship was a long-distance fling with a young Moroccan artist, Oussama Berber.
At 43 years her junior, Oussama claimed that their connection was based on a mutual love of art. Debbie eventually moved to Morrocco, hoping to marry Oussama. The couple appeared on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, touting the biggest age gap in the franchise’s history.
But Debbie and Oussama called it quits when Oussama’s true intentions were revealed. He wanted to use their marriage to procure a green card and launch his art career in the United States. Together, Debbie and Oussama were one of the most explosive couples in season four of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way.
Whether people loved her or hated her, Debbie was drawing in the viewers with her eccentric sense of style and larger-than-life personality. She appeared in the most recent season of 90 Day Fiancé: The Single Life.
90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way – Ruben the Cuban
While the pair had broken up for good, Oussama continued to haunt Debbie’s romantic life. When she matched with a man named Russ, he was fine with the fact that Debbie shaved a few years off her age. He called it quits once he heard about her 24-year-old ex.
But Ruben the Cuban, a.k.a Ruben Sanchez, seemed to be one of Debbie’s more open-minded suitors. Not only did they share similar passions for art and a unique sense of style, Sanchez invited Debbie to visit him in Miami.
Sanchez, 58, has a history of working in sales and marketing. He is currently the VP of Sales and Commercial Strategy at Vehicle Inspection Systems.
Debbie’s son, Julian, insisted on tagging along for the trip after the debacle with Oussama. Ruben took Debbie on a whirlwind tour around Miami, even letting her briefly meet his parents, for whom he is the primary caregiver. Julian still remained suspicious of Ruben.
But now, it’s been revealed that Ruben and Debbie did not see each other in the time between their Miami trip and the tell-all.
In fact, it appears that the two are currently embroiled in an online feud.
90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way – The Tell-All Turns the Tables
During the tell-all, it was revealed that Ruben was still active on the dating app where he and Debbie met. Perhaps the final nail in the coffin was his age range settings. Ruben set his preferred age range to 30-50. Ruben told cameras that he never agreed to be exclusive with Debbie to justify why he was still active on online dating websites.
However, the Cuban artist had a couple of tricks up his sleeves. Ruben won Debbie over by wearing socks and underwear covered in photos of Debbie’s face.
The couple eventually worked through their differences during the tell-all. They agreed to be exclusive moving forward. By all accounts, Debbie left the tell-all with a boyfriend.
90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way – What Went Wrong?
Debbie is now accusing Ruben of scamming fans. The 58-year-old recently set up a gofundme asking supporters for $100,000 to “save my friend’s life and house.” Sanchez writes, “I’m here for my dear friend, who spent the week in the hospital with septic shock, and when I went to visit him, he didn’t wanna let me in his house finally he agreed, and I was taking back felt like I was in a horror house.”
Gonzalez modified the goal to $10,000 to get his friend a camper as a short-term solution.
On April 11, Debbie posted a video to Instagram seemingly targeting Ruben. Debbie cautioned fans to “do some fact-checking” before donating to causes online.
On April 12, Ruben filed a police report against Debbie for cyberstalking.
90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way – Debbie Claims She’s Being Harrassed
Debbie responded on Instagram on April 21 by posting a video of herself reading a poem she titled “The Odd Paramedic.” She told fans that the poem goes out to, “my wounded warriors. Survivors of bomb blasts.”
While Debbie did not name Ruben outright as the perpetrator of her harassment, according to Screenrant, “she implied that he was the one behind ‘the extremely viscous hate campaign.’”
90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way – Ruben Admits to a Fake Relationship
On May 8, Ruben posted to Instagram acknowledging that the relationship between him and Debbie was faked for the sake of the show.
Sanchez wrote, “Contrary to claims, there was never any romantic involvement between “Ruben The Cuban” and Debbie Aguero. Initial online interactions, evidenced by screenshots, reveal her desperation to secure a spot on the show. Despite my personal hardships with a dying mother, I reluctantly participated to support her supposed worthy cause.”
Sanchez also cleared the air about his alleged criminal record, writing, “I don’t have any arrest or criminal record! My record remains clean, except for a minor speeding ticket.”
He also compiled a Linktree of sources and articles about the dissolution of their relationship and subsequent feud.
The fact that Ruben and Debbie faked their relationship for the show adds to fans’ mounting irritation with the network, as fans have been calling out TLC for showcasing fake relationships on 90 Day Fiancé.
