The couple will employ the Archewell Foundation to launch a movement that will coincide with the election. The campaign is said to help the US voters discern the truth from AI deepfake news.
An assortment of other celebrities will be involved. This is not Harry and Meghan’s first go-round with politics. In 2020, they prompted Americans to vote and educate themselves against misinformation.
They also teamed up with uber-feminist Gloria Steinem to get the word out about how crucial it is to vote. Of course, Meghan was overjoyed to see Kamala Harris represent the bi-racial community as a potential vice president.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are really using the upcoming election, as they used the last one, for self-promotion. Even though the couple claims to be neutral, they support the left-wing initiative, not because they necessarily believe in those politics but because it’s trendy.
The Duke and Duchess claim to not specifically endorse politicians, but Meghan was very vocal about being anti-Trump. Prior to him winning the 2016 election, she called him “divisive” and “misogynistic.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Have No Place in Politics
Meghan Markle has a knack for being outspoken about politics. She’s often been criticized for it. As a royal, politics is a no-no, and it’s incredibly controversial for her to be involved.
Ditto for Harry. But then again, no one would accuse the couple of adhering to royal protocol as they continue to make poor choices.
There was a rumor last November that Meghan wanted to run for the US Presidency or the Senate. Meghan aims to build her brand in any way she can. Her intentions are not genuine.
The current campaign is touted as a “bipartisan coalition ” with Hollywood power players and support from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Foundation.
Experts are saying that this is important because the US will soon be bombarded with deepfake AI that may serve to confuse and manipulate voters.
Deepfake AI Is All Over Social Media
Some companies like Google are joining the campaign to tackle deepfake content. Archewell is trying to come up with new content to further Harry and Meghan’s agenda.
Harry is trying to “encourage” people to reject misinformation. The Duke and Duchess are going with the premise that they want to protect the public from deepfake content and propaganda.
In deepfake images, people’s faces often have unrealistic undertones that may appear waxy or blurry. These are good indicators that the pictures are fake.
There may be other dead giveaways that aren’t always easy to spot when you’re not looking for them. CNN explains,
“One distressing headline out of New Hampshire, as voters prepared to cast in-person primary ballots, was that a fake version of President Joe Biden’s voice had been used in automatically generated robocalls to discourage Democrats from taking part in the primary.”
Social Media Is A Playground for Misinformation
It’s these types of deepfakes that Harry and Meghan claim they are combating. Social media is a playground for this type of disturbing misinformation.
There is also a lack of regulation on this type of content. Miles Taylor is a security expert who functioned as chief of staff at the Division of Homeland Security throughout the Trump administration and a prominent Trump whistleblower.
Taylor says,
“The government isn’t talking to social media companies. Many of the social media companies don’t want anything to do with the government, which means novel AI threats could get missed.”
There is no doubt that deepfake content is an issue. But do we really need Harry and Meghan to be involved in politics?
Harry and Meghan’s participation in this campaign raises essential questions about potential political aspirations that Meghan may have.
