‘The Young And The Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers show that rather than opting for the conventional route of having Claire Grace (Hayley Erin) provide her DNA sample, Cole Howard (J. Eddie Peck) embarked on a more intricate journey by retrieving some of her possessions from the lake house.
Notably among these items was a hairbrush, a point of interest as Claire had taken the time to brush Nikki Newman’s (Melody Thomas Scott) hair during her captivity.
We saw Claire brushing Nikki’s hair, adding significance to the storyline. The decision to focus on this moment becomes even more noteworthy when considering that Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) entrusted Cole with handling the entire situation.
Observing Victoria’s growing optimism about the possibility of their daughter being alive, Cole, too, found himself harboring similar hopes. Sympathetic to Claire’s need for supportive parents, especially in contrast to her tumultuous relationship with Jordan (Colleen Zenk), Cole may have contemplated a drastic decision.
What if Cole, driven by a desire to spare Victoria and Claire from heartbreak, decided to manipulate the situation to make it seem as though Claire was their biological child? The thought of shattering Victoria’s dreams and denying her a second chance at a daughter might have motivated Cole to go to great lengths to prevent such pain.

In this scenario, Cole could have taken the hairbrush from Nikki’s room as part of a contingency plan. Bringing back other items from the lake house that were purportedly Claire’s, he might have secretly used them to confirm that he and Victoria were not a genetic match for her.
In an act of desperation, Cole might have made sure that Victoria received the results of a different test, comparing her DNA to the sample collected from Nikki’s hairbrush. This could explain the mother-daughter match that Victoria confirmed through the results on her phone.
While Cole’s results remained a secret to others, he could have pretended they were a match, playing along to perpetuate the deception for Victoria’s benefit.
Despite the official narrative proclaiming Claire as Cole and Victoria’s daughter, there exists ample narrative flexibility for the writers to alter Claire’s parentage in the future.
As Victoria and Claire forge a genuine bond, the revelation of the truth may lead to devastation over the deception. Such a revelation could prompt Claire and Victoria to choose each other without the biological tie, introducing a compelling twist to the storyline.
