King Charles has taken the approach with Harry to limit his conversations to casual, everyday talk. He was the one who warned the royals about Harry. Everyone in the family took the message not to trust Harry very seriously.
Royal biographer Omid Scobie explains in his new book, “Endgame, that when Harry’s book, “Spare” was released in January 2023, there was a consensus among the royal family that the Duke of Sussex was not to be trusted.
King Charles Warned the Royals Not to Trust Harry
In an excerpt from the French magazine Paris Match, it was reported that King Charles was “cautious” and “not to trust Harry with anything and ignore both the book’s claims and what he was saying to promote it.”
In Harry’s book, he claimed that the royals helped destroy his and Meghan’s reputations in the press. This is supposedly why Harry and Meghan moved to California.
Meghan reportedly admitted under oath that she permitted an aide to secretly brief Scobie and Carolyn Durand on their original book, “Finding Freedom.”
The book focuses on Harry and Meghan’s courtship, wedding, children, and finally, their infamous “Megxit” as working royals.
The funny thing is, at first, Meghan denied claims that she was involved in creating the book, then testified to giving them information to help them write it.
When Harry’s book, “Spare,” hit shelves, it revealed many secrets about the royal family. Harry broke his family’s trust when he talked about very private matters, alienating the royals and triggering much controversy.
King Charles was appalled by Harry’s accusations in his tell-all memoir. It caused everyone in the royal family to be cautious when speaking to him.
The Sussexes Still Converse with King Charles
William hasn’t spoken to him much since the book’s release. He has no intention of making nice with his brother any time soon.
In “Endgame,” Scobie says that even though the Sussexes and the royals are estranged, Harry and Meghan still routinely send King Charles pictures of his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, and provide him with updates.
A few weeks ago, King Charles spoke to Harry, Meghan, and his grandchildren on his 75th birthday. It was the first time Harry had spoken with his father since the coronation in May.
His grandchildren treated him to a spirited rendition of “Happy Birthday.” Soon after the birthday call, suspicious details of the phone conversation ended up being reported by the press.
It is evident that Harry and Meghan leaked the news of the call and its contents. Harry has been having difficulty with the Sussexes move to California. He doesn’t have his family or even any of his drinking chums.
He likely feels very lonely, even with Meghan and his children. It is conceivable that Harry would want to reconcile with his father and move back to the UK.
According to Scobie, the royal family never bothered to inquire about Harry’s mental health following the Megxit.
Whosever side you may be on, one thing is clear: The level of detail in Scobie’s “Endgame” either had to have come directly from Harry and Meghan or sources close to them.
