Ne-Yo has expressed his belief that parents should not allow their children to undergo gender transition. He suggests that minors lack the understanding needed for such decisions and that adults should be the ones making such choices.
During a recent interview with Gloria Velez on VladTV, the singer shared his thoughts on various topics, eventually discussing transgenderism, particularly in relation to children. Ne-Yo conveyed his perspective that the essence of parenting has been somewhat lost in modern times.
For him, parenting involves having greater wisdom than your child and recognizing when it’s necessary to set boundaries and say no. In this context, he disagrees with affirming a child’s gender identity.
R&B Singer Ne-Yo Doesn’t Condone Parents Letting Their Children Transition Genders
Ne-Yo’s reasoning centers around the idea that transitioning genders is a life-altering decision. He argues that children, especially young ones, may not fully comprehend what they truly want or mean when expressing a desire to identify as a different gender.
He emphasized his stance by stating, “I just personally come from an era where a man was a man and a woman was a woman. And there were two genders, and that’s just how I believed. You could identify as a goldfish if you want, that’s your business. It becomes my concern when you try to impose it on me. I’m not going to refer to you as a goldfish.”
Ne-Yo also referenced California legislation, though he slightly mischaracterized it, suggesting that parents could lose custody of their children if they don’t affirm their child’s gender identity.
While there is indeed a bill (AB 957) in the process in California that aims to factor in a parent’s support for their child’s identity in custody disputes, there are two other bills (AB 223 and AB 665) that are addressing similar concerns. If these bills successfully pass through the Assembly and State Senate, they are likely to be enacted into law.
