The infamous front door of the house where the heinous murders of Sharon Tate were committed by Charles Manson’s followers is currently being auctioned. Trent Reznor, a member of Nine Inch Nails, played a significant role in bringing this historical artifact to the auction block.

Originally situated at 10050 Cielo Drive, the door went through an intriguing journey after the tragic Manson murders in 1969. It eventually ended up in the possession of Christopher Moore, the current owner, who is now selling it through Julien’s Auctions.

Back in 1992, Trent Reznor recorded his band’s album “Downward Spiral” while renting the house. After moving out the following year, Trent took the door with him before the house was demolished. The property is currently the location of Jeff Franklin’s mansion, which has been listed for sale multiple times.

Subsequently, Trent used the door as an entryway to his recording space in New Orleans until he relocated the studio to Los Angeles in 2004. In 2012, a doctor purchased the property and saved the front door from being discarded once he became aware of its historical significance.

Christopher acquired the door from the doctor in 2017 with the intention of installing it in an old church he owned. However, the historical district disapproved of this plan, prompting Christopher to put it up for auction instead.

Originally expected to fetch between $2,000 to $4,000, the bidding for the door has already surged to over $22,000 with 7 bids, and the auction is set to continue until September. Over time, the door has undergone repainting during its various exchanges.

Notably, Manson family member Susan Atkins had infamously written “PIG” on the door using Sharon Tate‘s blood, but those markings are no longer present.
