Senator Mitch McConnell assures that he is doing well, but a strange moment during a news conference raises concerns. While addressing reporters on Capitol Hill, the Senate Minority leader abruptly paused mid-sentence, standing still like a statue at the podium.
After more than 30 seconds of immobility, without blinking or speaking, he was escorted off-camera.
Later, the 81-year-old Senator from Kentucky returned to the podium to answer reporters’ questions and address the incident, asserting, “No, I’m fine.” The exact cause of what transpired remains uncertain.
Senator Mitch McConnell MEDICAL EMERGENCY During Mid-Sentence, Claims He Is Fine
However, it’s worth noting that in March, McConnell was hospitalized after tripping and falling at a hotel in Washington D.C., where he received treatment for a concussion. He denies any connection between that fall and the recent occurrence.
CNN’s Manu Raju reported that one of McConnell’s aides mentioned the Senator was feeling “light-headed,” which prompted him to step aside momentarily.
Despite health concerns earlier in the year, McConnell has been back at work in the Senate since April. As of now, there has been no response from his office to provide further clarity on the situation.
There have been a number of moments like this among representatives, and as they continue to get older, it will happen more often. It’s amazing how long some of these people have been in office, and haven’t done anything. While we hope that McConnell is fine, perhaps it’s a sign that it is time for him to retire.
He’s had a very long career, and he and President Joe Biden could call it a day very easily and walk off into the sunset. Until then, we’re going to have these folks in office making things worse.
What do you think? Will Senator Mitch McConnell end up being fine and will this affect his health enough that he needs to take a step back and retire? Let us know in the comments below.
