‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Summer Newman (Allison Lanier) is finally getting honest with herself. This is evident when she has a heart-to-heart with her father, Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow).
She finally is able to see that she was wrong and how she hurt her husband, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor). But is this self-awareness coming too late?

Y&R’s Summer Newman has been in the hot seat these days because she kept some pretty significant secrets from her husband. She knew her mother, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) was alive.
This meant, that Kyle’s mother, Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) could not have killed her. But, while Diane languished in a prison cell, Summer kept this news to herself.
Her justification was that she needed to help her mother. Her mother had just miraculously appeared ‘from the dead’ and she couldn’t bear the thought of Phyllis going to prison. For that reason, she just kept quiet, hoping to get the answer for how to save her mother.
When Kyle found out, he was livid and very hurt. Summer hurt him badly and all her explanations and justifications just serve to make him feel that she is not sorry about what she did but is just sorry that she got caught. He doesn’t know if he can ever trust her again.
‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Seeing More Clearly
Finally, Summer shares everything with her father, Nicholas Newman. She doesn’t want to, because he is also under a lot of emotional stress. However, she finally tells him everything and through the process, she really starts to see it more clearly.
She does see that her mother’s choice really impacted her relationship with Kyle. She chose to keep it a secret from him, but if her mother had not done this in the first place, then she wouldn’t have been so stuck.
Summer for the first time, begins to express some righteous indignation and frustration with Phyllis and her choices. She also admits how wrong she was and doesn’t try to explain it away.
She hasn’t even been this forthright when talking with Kyle. Possibly when she talks with him, she is still trying to help her mother’s reputation and she should let that go.
Nick wishes she had come to him sooner. He offers to talk to Kyle but recognizes that it may not help at all. Kyle really doesn’t want to address this right now.
He is too hurt and it actually seeking some salve for his wounds in the arms of Audra Charles (Zuleyka Charles). Working on his marriage is not something he is interested in right now.
