‘The Young And The Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers show that the villains of recent memory: Ashland Locke (Robert Newman) and Jeremy Stark (James Hyde), both came roaring into the town with so much potential, were terrifying and we did not know much about them other than the horror stories that were spread around town.

They were both played by incredible actors who really brought them to life, and made us believe that they could go toe to toe with the likes of a Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). However, both of them met very lackluster ends at the hands of Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford).

Nick accidentally killed Ashland when he punched him and Ashland fell, hitting his head. Meanwhile, Stark was killed in a damp motel room by Phyllis with scissors. The fact that they were taken out so easily and were slowly torn down over time after such a huge start is a bit upsetting.

Ashland became a lovesick puppy dog for Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and slowly this great character was peeled away until he was a blubbering lovesick old man. Meanwhile, when he came to Genoa City, he seemed like a force to be reckoned with and everyone was terrified of him, especially Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) who had an affair with his wife!

Stark was an enigma. We had no idea who he was and had briefly seen him in a flashback from Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters). However, again, over time he slowly became less and less scary, even to the point where he was a bit silly and not taken seriously. To end it all, he got one pulled over on him by Phyllis and killed with scissors.

It just seems incredibly silly that the writers keep creating these terrifying bad guys only to tear them down and make them jokes by the end of their runs. It is unfortunate that they can’t seem to keep a solid bad guy, and we hope that they can eventually fix this glaring issue.

What do you think? What did you think of Ashland and Stark and were they not used to their full potential? What do you think they should do with their future bad guys? Let us know in the comments below.
