According to royal commentator Edward Coram-James, it is Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that require the Royal Family’s presence more so than the other way around.
Harry And Meghan Need The Firm ‘To Remain Relevant,’ Says Edward Coram-James
He alleges that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are dealing with an issue of relevancy that is not yet a concern for the monarchy, based on the analysis of reputation and crisis management.
And given the titles he and Meghan have, and the worldwide fascination with the monarchy, James believes there would be an advantage to the couple, who currently reside in California, to remain associated with the Royal Family.
It is essential for the Sussexes to begin their new professional lives in a positive manner given their recent public expressions of discontentment with the Royal Family. After all, they have launched various projects such as Meghan’s Archetypes podcast, the couple’s Netflix docuseries, as well as Harry’s memoir.
In his comments, James said: “They need to be royals much more than the royals need them…To remain relevant, The Sussexes will have to be seen to remain royal. And, to be seen to remain royal, the Duke and Duchess will have to attend the Coronation.”
He proposed that the presence of the Sussexes would be advantageous to the firm, as their presence at Westminster Abbey would be less of a disturbance than their absence. It is unclear at this time whether the Sussexes will accept the invitation that has been extended to them.
With that being said, the response on social media was clear. Large numbers of people agreed that the Sussexes had to keep the firm in their grasp, as otherwise, they would fade away from relevancy. One person wrote: “The vast majority of the public do not want these two to go…there will be protests against them and they will be publicly humiliated.”
