Oscar Pistorius, an ex-Olympic sprinter who was convicted of killing his girlfriend ten years ago, could be released from jail at the end of this month. According to Pistorius’ lawyer, Julian Knight, a hearing will take place on March 31; if parole is given during the proceedings, the convicted murderer might be released from prison on the same day.
Pistorius has already served more than half of the 13-year, 5-month term he received for the Feb. 14, 2013, Valentine’s Day shooting death of 29-year-old Reeva Steenkamp. It’s shocking that this would even be a possibility, and we wonder what is going through the minds of Steenamp’s family after hearing the news.
Oscar Pistorius SHOCKINGLY Up For Parole? Early Prison Release Coming At The End Of The Month?
You may remember that “Blade Runner” Pistorius, a double amputee who admitted to shooting her in his South African home, said he did so accidentally because he believed she was an intruder. Ultimately, he was found guilty of homicide, which was then changed to murder.
Although South African law will permit Pistorius to pursue early release because of the country’s parole system, which allows offenders to apply after serving at least half of their sentences, The Independent claims that Steenkamp’s family is opposed to Pistorius’ early release.
If parole is rejected at the meeting, Pistorius’ attorney said they will appeal.
What do you think? Should there be any chance that Oscar gets out early and why would they be considering this as an option? Let us know in the comments below.
