New information about the horrible snowplow tragedy involving Jeremy Renner has come to light. According to authorities, Renner was in fact trying to save a family member when the snowcat vehicle crushed him, and there are indications the machine was broken.
According to the redacted police report obtained by CNN, the “Hawkeye” actor tried to stop the car from sliding and hitting his grown nephew on January 1. He also noted that the emergency brake wasn’t applied when the car started sliding. The brake would have prevented the machine from moving, according to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, but the brake warning light inside the vehicle’s cab wasn’t working, suggesting mechanical problems could have been a factor. The report read,
“Once he was off the Pistenbully, he realized it was heading directly toward (his nephew). He feared the Pistenbully was going to hit (his nephew), so he decided to attempt to stop or divert the Pistenbully.”

The police claim that Renner was “immediately sucked under” by the vehicle as it continued down the road because he would have had to climb directly onto the plow’s moving track in order to get back into the cab. After being crushed, the actor reportedly concentrated on breathing while his nephew assisted him until emergency personnel came. According to the report, drug or alcohol impairment was ruled out as a contributing cause. During the terrifying event, Renner shattered 30 bones, but he assured his supporters that they will “grow stronger, much like the love and bond with family and friends deepens.” Renner provided them an update over the weekend.
