Harry recounts his encounter with “Billy the Rock,” otherwise known as Sergeant Bill Renshaw. One such story is how Renshaw helped Harry evade the paparazzi after leaving nightclubs by allowing him to hide in the trunk of his car and closing it.
However, it was another event that had things getting out of control. Harry recalls an incident in which he assaulted Billy while he was working to protect him. The incident occurred during a trip to Paris in 2007, when Harry, who had been drinking heavily, decided to retrace the last steps of his mother, Princess Diana’s journey.
And that is when Harry launched an attack. In his book, he wrote: “When Billy the Rock escorted me back to the hotel, I tried to pick a fight with him. I growled at him, swung on him, slapped his head. He barely reacted.
“He just frowned like an ultra-patient parent. I slapped him again. I loved him but I was determined to hurt him.” Shortly after, Harry described how Billy and another bodyguard helped him get into bed after a night of heavy drinking.
However, when they believed he was asleep, he got up and managed to slip past them, wandering alone along the Seine river. The fans on social media were heavily critical towards Harry. A certain subset of people were of the view that Harry came across as someone who was glorifying the mistakes he had made in his life.
One person wrote: “He seems to be proud of all the awful things he’s done and wants the whole world to know what an arrogant, unpleasant person he is.. It’s hard to believe the RF want any kind of reconciliation with him after the way he’s behaved.”
