Sonya Eddy, a popular actress from General Hospital, died at the age of 55 due to an infection occurring after a regular surgery which shocked the fan base last December.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Sonya Eddy Will Be Honoured With A Special Episode Following Her Death
The 55-year-old actress had a planned operation on Dec 9th and was discharged from the hospital two days later. But she then started to feel unwell and was admitted to the hospital again on Dec 15th.
Physicians concluded that Eddy had gotten an infection which could not be controlled. She was then given life support, and sadly passed away. She had played the role of Epiphany Johnson since 2006 and the ABC show is now preparing a special episode to honour her memory in the near future.
This April, the show will be celebrating its 60th anniversary on daytime television and to commemorate the event, a special episode will be broadcast. Her character was known for being a head nurse, as kind-hearted and candid as she was, in keeping everyone in line.
After the special episode, the soap opera will be holding its annual Nurses Ball, a charity event. This will be the first Nurses Ball since 2020. The fans on social media came out in droves in order to express their sadness at the fact that the soap had lost one of its most iconic characters.
As a result, some even suggested that the show should find a replacement in order to ensure that her character’s storyline does end up being concluded. One person wrote: “I’m going to miss her. As far as her character, I’m going to miss her as well.
“It was so great to see a woman of a certain age finally go for her dream of becoming a Dr. In a way, which I think would honor Sonya, they should eventually recast Epiphany to see the SL through.”
