Outrage As Prince Edward Failed To Sing God Save The King At The Royal Variety Performance

Audience members of the Royal Variety Performance were surprised on Wednesday, 21st December 2022, when they observed that Prince Edward was not singing the patriotic national anthem.

Outrage As Prince Edward Failed To Sing God Save The King At The Royal Variety Performance-‘What’s That All About?’

This year’s gathering was the first one since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96. Her eldest son, King Charles III, has now become the monarch, signifying the debut of the new national anthem at the event, which is presently sung as God Save the King in place of the Queen.

Edward and his partner Sophie Countess of Wessex were the attendees of the Royal Family. Although they were there representing the regal family, sharp-eyed observers couldn’t resist noticing and pointing out that Edward was not singing any song.

Sophie was observed to be silently articulating the lyrics, while her spouse remained there, gazing. And that did not sit very well with people as it came across in a very poor manner. First of all, it was argued that Edward should have been putting more effort on a public engagement such as this where he was in front of the cameras.

Secondly, given that this was the first time that Charles would see the anthem being done in his honour at this event, it was surprising to see that Edward did not show more enthusiasm. And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media.

One person wrote: “I thought it was lovely to see Prince Edward and Countess of Wessex out supporting Charles and William as everyone can’t be everywhere at once they need to share the chores so to speak but noticed Prince Edward not singing National Anthem, very tight lipped, What’s that all about?”

It is not exactly clear what was going through Edward’s mind, which is why we should give him the benefit of the doubt unless there is an alternative explanation to the contrary.
