Production on “Rust” has resumed thanks to Matthew Hutchins‘ settlement in his wrongful death lawsuit against Alec Baldwin and other cast members, but the ongoing criminal investigation into the D.P.’s death has not been suspended. The settlement will not in any way impact the criminal investigation, according to sources with knowledge of the case, in which Baldwin and others may face charges.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, the District Attorney will review the file after the investigation is finished and decide whether or not to bring charges against anyone. In the film that claimed the life of Halyna Hutchins last year, Baldwin and company are picking up where they left off because the actor is continuing in his lead role and other cast members will continue as well.
Matthew Hutchins’ Settlement WON’T Impact The Criminal Investigation That Could See Alec Baldwin Hit With Charges
After reaching an agreement with Baldwin and the “Rust” producers, Halyna’s husband Matthew said he has decided to drop his wrongful death lawsuit against them. Additionally, Matthew agreed to serve as the project’s executive producer.
Hannah’s lawyer, Jason Bowles, says that she is happy that the Hutchins family will benefit from the settlement and that they are hoping the D.A.’s office will decide against filing criminal charges.
While it’s odd that Matthew would drop his wrongful death lawsuit as he did, it looks like Alec isn’t quite off the hook yet. He could still face some pretty serious charges for the wrongful death of Halyna, as many believe he should. We will have to wait to find out what happens, but many are already thinking that because of his fame and fortune, Baldwin will not have to face any repercussions for his actions, which may be true.
What do you think? Should Alec Baldwin be charged with a crime for what happened and why do you think Matthew would agree to drop the wrongful death lawsuit against him? Let us know in the comments below.
