If she only had a penny for every thought, right? Johnny Depp might not want to hold his breath for too long if he thinks he’s getting paid the $10 million Amber Heard owes him after he won his defamation case against her. That’s because the actress is “broke” due to her mounting legal fees and lavish spending. Here’s what you need to know.
When asked about the matter, Heard’s attorney told the Today Show that she cannot pay her legal bills and that she didn’t have the means to cover the hefty judgment handed down by the jury on Wednesday. Multiple sources said the “Aquaman” star had to switch legal representation and is relying on her homeowner’s insurance policy to cover the cost of her current attorneys in the case.
Amber Heard Is Too Broke To Pay Johnny Depp His $10 Million
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp himself doesn’t seem to be too worried about his ex-wife’s financial woes as she was spotted in the UK holding a badger cub during a surprise wildlife rescue center visit. The charity says Depp’s visit was an incredible afternoon for staff, as the Pirates of the Caribbean star toured the hospital’s care and vets units.
It wrote on its Facebook page: “Johnny was incredibly complementary and in his own words ‘blown away’ by what he saw. To top the visit off, we even allowed him the rare privilege of briefly holding Freddie (as in Mercury!) one of the many orphaned badger cubs we’re currently hand rearing – and I think it’s fair to say he was bowled over by the whole experience!”
Depp’s visit to the wildlife center was the latest in a string of appearances around the UK, as the high-profile defamation trial came to a close. He appeared on stage at gigs in Sheffield and in London before the jury came back with its verdict. The actor also dropped by a pub in Newcastle on the night he won the case against Heard.
Depp sued the Aquaman star for $50 million over the piece, titled: “I spoke up against sexual violence – and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.” While the article did not mention the actor by name, his lawyers said it falsely implied he physically and sexually abused Heard while they were together.
Heard countersued for $100m over the Daily Mail article. A seven-member jury in Virginia awarded Mr Depp $15 million in damages after finding that a 2018 Washington Post article penned by Heard on the “sexual violence” she had suffered was defamatory to Depp.
