Could you imagine being that person who dumps a prince? Yeah, neither do we. Yet, there’s a new report that suggests Prince Harry was apparently worried that Meghan Markle would dump him because of all the racist coverage she was getting back when they were still living in the U.K. Here’s what you need to know.
Apparently, Harry feared Meghan would end their relationship if he didn’t make a strong public statement condemning what he felt was the media’s racist treatment of her at the beginning of their relationship.
Prince Harry Was Once Worried That Meghan Markle Would Dump Him For This Reason
So, that’s exactly what he did when he released a statement telling the press to back off from his girlfriend at the time. In his statement, Harry denounced “the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.”
And yet one source close to the situation says that Harry felt obligated to say something, simply because he was worried about his future with Meghan.
A source told the Times: “It did feel like that if the palace was not able to stand up and support his girlfriend, against some of that disgusting coverage . . . then who in their right mind would ever consider entering into a relationship [with him] in the future? He was very exercised about some of that coverage. He definitely felt that if nothing was done to support her, then she would be, ‘I’m not sure this is what I signed up for.’”
Another source told the Times: “He was freaking out, saying, ‘She’s going to dump me.’”
Both Harry and Meghan deny the allegations that Harry was concerned that Meghan would pull the plug on their relationship at the time.
