Well, it’s not like they would get paid for their performances anyway seeing how SWIFT and other international means of payment have been blocked in Russia. There’s a new report that says both Louis Tomlinson and Franz Ferdinand have decided to cancel their shows in Russia following the country’s decision to invade nearby Ukraine.

So far it’s been one week of non stop shelling by Russian troops, bloodshed and carnage as at least a million people have so far fled Ukraine for Poland and Ukraine. Here’s what you need to know.

These Artists Are Canceling Their Upcoming Concerts In Russia

As Russia continues its offensive on cities around Ukraine artists are pulling out of the country in droves. The former One Direction star, 30, said his “thoughts go out to the people of Ukraine and all those suffering from this needless war.”

He was due to perform at the Stereo Plaza venue in the Ukrainian capital on Monday July 4 before heading to Russia to play at Circus City Hall in Moscow on Wednesday July 6. However, the events have now been canceled with Tomlinson’s official website showing a “sale paused” message for both shows.

Franz Ferdinand, who have enjoyed chart success with songs including Take Me Out and Do You Want To, said that the “only reason” for axing the shows was “the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian state.”

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin says that sanctions over Ukraine are like a declaration of war. Putin also warned that any attempt to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine would be seen as participation in the armed conflict and he rejected suggestions that he would introduce a state of emergency or martial law in Russia.

As many readers know by now, since the start of Russia’s invasion 10 days ago, the West has imposed a raft of sanctions on Russia, including the freezing of Mr Putin’s foreign assets and the exclusion of a number of Russian banks from the Swift international payments system.
