Prince William and Prince Harry were taken aback by the news that Duchess Camilla could one day become a Queen consort.
Prince William And Prince Harry Were ‘Blindsided’ By Duchess Camilla Becoming A Queen Consort
That is according to Royal author Christopher Andersen. With Prince Charles next in line to the throne, that has naturally made Duchess Camilla the wife of the next monarch.
But given that Harry and William have not always had an easy relationship with her, by virtue of the fact that she did have an affair with their father while he was married to their late mother Princess Diana, it has understandably been hard for them to stomach.
In an interview with Us Weekly, Christopher said: “It’s just whether or not they can get over this bad feeling. Then, of course, [the] Queen’s health and these other considerations are there.
“I don’t think it helped with the Queen announcing that Duchess Camilla will be Queen Consort, and that’s another issue.” This issue has created tensions within the Royal family, in particular with Harry.
The former does not have a good relationship with his father currently, given that reports indicated he was the one expressing concerns about his son Archie’s skin colour.
Not only that, but the presence of Camilla in Charles’ life has not made things any easier to the point where the news of Camilla being near the throne bypassed the two brothers. Christopher added: “I can tell you right now that the boys were completely blindsided by this.”
But it was not just the brothers who had objections. During the earlier parts of her entry into the Royal family, Queen Elizabeth II had also had her doubts. And yet, those worries have now been dispelled, as the monarch recently gave her approval to the thought of Camilla becoming a Queen consort.
Christopher’s following comments confirmed as much: “Elizabeth II was skeptical about Camilla when she married Charles, and the circumstances were certainly challenging, but through her dedication and loyalty to The Firm, she has more than proved to her that she has what it takes.”
