El Secreto de Selena spoilers for Sunday, October 20th reveal that Selena Quintanilla (Maya Zapata) is starting to have doubts, witnesses are telling different stories, and Maria Celeste Arrarás (Sofía Lama) is dealing with an ethical issue. We also have someone reaching out to speak to her in the wake of the trial, and Yolanda Saldívar (Damayanti Quintanar) wants to speak to Maria Celeste. If you missed it, let’s get to your El Secreto de Selena recap.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Conflicting stories

One of the things about this story is how there is so much conflicting information. It’s almost impossible to know the full truth of what happened based on that, as several witnesses tell conflicting stories.

The worst case is of a woman who had initially told the police that she saw Selena get shot, then watched as Yolanda got into her truck. She mentioned nothing about hearing Yolanda say anything, but the story changes in court. She claims to have heard Yolanda call Selena a “bitch”, but says that she never actually saw anyone shot. She just heard the noise.

Another witness is unable to correctly identify the color of Yolanda’s shirt collar, but she claims that it is, in fact, the same shirt. Doubt is planted on her story by pointing out that if she can’t identify the color of the shirt collar correctly only minutes after seeing it, how can she can sure when she says there were no injuries on Yolanda months ago?

Others tell about hearing the gunshot, but when their stories are played out on screen, it doesn’t seem to fit either. In the man’s story, he is working alone in a room when he hears the shot, but in the woman’s, she’d just had him come out to help her open a door to a room she needed to clean. He was still with her outside when the shot rang out.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Attack

Also today, the series delves more into the allegations that Yolanda was being harassed. We see a scene where she is attacked and later thrown out of a truck. She calls someone for help, and is seen walking a very remote area.

Later on, she has Selena take her to the hospital, where she is examined. They don’t do a full rape exam, though, because the attack allegedly happened outside the US, and Yolanda doesn’t live in Corpus Christi. There’s no jurisdiction for them to report it or investigate.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Doubts

This is where doubts begin to form in Selena’s mind. During the exam, Yolanda doesn’t talk much. Selena has to do a lot of talking for her, but when Yolanda does answer a question, she claims she only bled a little. Selena says that Yolanda told her she bled a lot. We also can see that there is not a lot, if any, blood on the clothes the nurse is handling.

This nurse later takes Selena aside and expresses doubts about Yolanda’s story. Later on, we get more reason to think this was a scam. During later scenes, Dr. Ricardo Martínez (Eduardo Santamarina) is giving his testimony via phone and says that a police friend traced Yolanda’s call for help to her motel room, not a remote outside area. Dr. Martínez reveals that he had noticed strange behavior from Yolanda and warned Selena to be careful. He also says that he never believed Yolanda’s story, and had warned Selena about this. He thought it was too convenient that something like that would happen right before Yolanda was to turn over bank documents. Not to mention criminals allowing their victim to keep their phone.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Ethical issue

Speaking of Dr. Martínez … he is talking as part of the trial, but he’s less willing to speak to the press. At least, unless he gets paid. His lawyer calls Maria Celeste to tell her that he is willing to grant an interview in exchange for $4,000. Maria Celeste balks. She doesn’t pay for interviews. She believes that people who accept pay for interviews deliver a distorted version of the truth. They think they need to make the fee worth the person’s while. The justification the lawyer gives is that Dr. Martínez will lose money by not seeing patients while doing this, but she refuses.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Reaching out

While Dr. Martínez is not willing to talk to Maria Celeste for free (at least yet), Martín Gómez (Javier Figuera) is. He’s a designer that Selena worked with. He tells Maria Celeste about his concerns and doubts about Yolanda. He says that she was charging things like crazy on the company card, but would go cheap on the employees. He also believes that the ring Selena was wearing when she died was bought with stolen funds. They would never have been able to provide enough money in an employee group effort to pay for a ring like that.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Backlash

We also deal a bit with Maria Celeste’s life following her learning about Manny’s (Moisés Arizmendi) affair. She has been throwing herself into work, but there’s a problem. She tells a friend that Abraham Quintanilla (Jorge Zárate) has been trying to prevent her book from being released. What’s more, she says that he is trying to get her fired from her TV network as well. She gets one bright spot professionally, though. Yolanda, throught a three-way call with her sister, tells Maria Celeste she’ll talk to her exclusively.
