Running into Dollar Tree with a $1.07 isn’t going to cut it anymore! Dollar Tree will be raising prices by a shiny quarter. The retailer announced it has begun rolling out a price increase for many of its items in stores.

In a statement released Tuesday, Dollar Tree said the decision to raise prices it not a reaction to the market. President and CEO Michael Witynski said,

“Lifting the one-dollar constraint represents a monumental step for our organization and we are enthusiastic about the opportunity to meaningfully improve our shoppers’ experience and unlock value for our stakeholders.“

Dollar Tree said that by raising the price to $1.25, it will allow them to introduce new products and bring back previously discontinued items that were cut for the one dollar price constraint. In September they also announced that they were testing products with prices above one dollar, as well as Dollar Tree Plus stores with prices at $3 and $5.

However, the prices haven’t seemed to ruin anything, as they say, the rest results have been “overwhelmingly positive.”

As a customer myself, I can say that the convenience and cheap price will still have me running in for wrapping paper, gift bags and a cheap Dr. Pepper every so often. While the era of $1 items seems to be almost gone, a quarter isn’t too big of a deal. Remember, we made it through McDonalds getting rid of the dollar menu… we too can make it through this.

Just remember the next time you run into Dollar Tree, that extra seven cents you have may not be enough, better bring an extra quarter or two. You’re going to need it.

As for their Dollar Tree Plus stores, that just sounds like a Dollar General, and if I can speak on behalf of America, we have more than enough Dollar Generals already!

What do you think? Is this a big deal for you or will you just fork over the extra quarter when the time comes? Let us know in the comments below.
