Can we just talk about Carrie Underwood’s performace in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for one second? She sounded absolutely great, as usual, and most of Twitter agreed. (Though, there was one user that posted the “find the note” meme, we’ll assume that they’re professionally trained.
There was also one that asked why Carrie didn’t sing her actual Thanksgiving song called “Stretchy Pants”, but I digress.) But most of the time when people perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, their performances are live. However, Carrie Underwood’s was not, it was pre-taped, and there was a special reason for that.
Vaccine mandates.
Apparently the city of NYC decided to crack down on the unvaccinated attending the parade, so everyone that performed had to be vaccinated. Apparently this did not include Carrie Underwood, who, much like Steve Burton from’ General Hospital’ fame, had some objections to her personal freedoms being infringed upon – but the line-up had already been announced.

So what is a flailing parade organizer to do? Phone it in. Dress it up in the best, most Christmass-y fashion possible, and have Carrie perform in a Winter Wonderland setting and have it streamed instead of say, having her on a float. It was.. interesting, to say the least and quite possible a first for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
One Twitter user commented that she looked like she was ready to “hold a handmaid down” and they’re not wrong. While the dress that she chose was really striking, it was a rather interesting shade of red and the set was lit a bit strangely.
A minor nitpick I have about her choice of fashion was that her lipstick really didn’t match her dress and wasn’t really what you would call a holiday shade. If her lipstick had matched the dress it would’ve looked a bit more complete and put together, but as it was, a nude lip with the bright red just kind of gave the impression that one of the Twilight Cast had decided to celebrate Christmas, which is totally okay, let the cast of Twilight deck the hall is if they want.
That’s cool. Still, most people were absolutely on-board with Carrie’s look, and probably had the lighting been a little different, we would’ve been too. That doesn’t take away from the fact that she knocked her performance out of the park though. Stay tuned!!!
