After only two seasons, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist was cancelled by NBC in June. Now, the loyal and bitterly disappointed fans (my hand is up) of the fresh and fun musical dramedy-with-heart no longer have to sing their tear-jerking heart songs in lamentation.
Because Zoey and pals have found new life in the form of a holiday movie!
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist Lives to See Another Day in an Unexpected Way
The Roku Channel have signed a deal with Lionsgate-who have never given up on finding a new home for Zoey after NBC’s ousting- and just in time to pour the eggnog and cozy up by the fire! That’s right, this Christmas will bring a feature-length Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist film that will have you singing and dancing along with your favorites as their stories pick up where we left off at the end of season two. Oh, and there will be a little Christmas sprinkled in there as well.
Yeah, I’m DOWN.
So, what can Zoey fans expect from Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas? Creator Austin Winsberg has hinted a “great romantic comedy” but that there will be “complications” in store for Zoey and sometimes beau, Max who, in a complete turnabout, was privy to Zoey’s feeling toward him as she sang her own heart song that Max could hear during the season two finale.
Does Max have the same powers as Zoey Clarke now? Audiences have to know!
It seems like we will find out not just Zoey and Max’s fate but that many of Zoey’s friends and family’s stories will wrap up in this Christmas tale. Joining Jane Levy (Zoey) and Skylar Astin (Max) for Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas are Alex Newell (Mo), John Clarence Stewart (Simon), Andrew Leeds (David), Alice Lee (Emily), Michael Thomas Grant (Leif), Kapil Talwalkar (Tobin), David St. Louis (Perry), Mary Steenburgen (Maggie), Peter Gallagher (Mitch) and Bernadette Peters (Deb).
“I can’t think of a more appropriate time to hear someone’s heart song than the holidays,” said Winsberg. “Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas will be an opportunity to provide the fans and new viewers alike a chance to all tap their toes and get in the holiday mood. This show has always been about empathy, compassion, and the triumph of the human spirit. The Roku Channel has sure lifted mine and I hope that our film can have the same effect on viewers everywhere…”
