    Has The Show Been Cancelled?

The Real Housewives of Dallas is not going to be renewed for a sixth season as things stand.

‘Real Housewives of Dallas’: Has The Show Been Cancelled?

The news should come as no surprise, given the recent attitude from the producers of the show. They have admitted that they are keen to rebrand the franchise, and because the Dallas series has suffered from lower ratings in comparison to the others, they have rightly decided to take a break.

That does not mean that it has been cancelled, though. A source told Us Weekly: “There are currently no plans to bring The Real Housewives of Dallas back next year, and beyond that nothing, official has been decided.” Taking a break is not something new.

We only have to look at what happened previously. In 2013, the Real Housewives of Miami was also taken off the air only to be then recommissioned very recently. This begs the question, why has the Dallas franchise been taken off the air? Well, there are several reasons why this may have happened.

First of all, there were rumours that a significant number of people were looking to leave the show. Naturally, if this were taken to be true, then it would make sense for the producers to stop the show. It would allow them to recast everyone and have enough time to market it.

Secondly, there was also a huge controversy surrounding Brandi Redmond. She had released a video on her social media that was deemed to be racially insensitive towards the Asian community. She had infamously stated the words ‘squinty’ in reference to Asian eyes, which received backlash.

In a time where we are living through a cancel culture, Brandi’s comments risked inciting hatred. This caused the show’s first-ever Asian star Tiffany Moon to speak out. In an interview with Vice, she remarked: “I never thought that we would be tackling issues such as racism and inequality on a show such as this. I thought it was supposed to be fun and fluffy.”

Time will tell whether the show will be cancelled for good, but on current reading, there is no doubt that the series will need a rebranding.
