‘Vanderpump Rules’ star Lala Kent Shades Demi Lovato’s ‘California Sobriety’

‘Vanderpump Rules’ star claims “I don’t like to judge,” before shading Demi Lovato’s ‘California sober’ approach to their recovery from addiction.

Appearing on the “Behind The Velvet Rope with David Yontef” podcast this week, 30 year old Kent decided Demi’s ‘California Sobriety’ is “super offensive.”

“There are people out there who work their ass off to never take themselves out of reality and to never place themselves in an altered state,” the new mom of one continued to ‘not judge’.

Kent struggled with alcohol addiction which flared its ugliest head after the death of her father. The Bravolebrity credits AA for her ‘complete sobriety’ which, in turn, helped her to completely mourn the loss of her dad.

“I will never ever preach to anybody, I’ll only speak from my own experiences,” Kent declared before preaching, “You’re not sober if you’re drinking or you’re smoking weed. You are not sober.”

Meanwhile, 26 year old Lovato has struggled with pretty much every substance out there since they were a child star. They previously mentioned they did not want to discuss their choice to smoke and drink “in moderation” because of outside opinions, like Kent’s

“You shouldn’t be forced to be sober if you’re not ready. You shouldn’t get sober for other people,” the Disney alum explained in their YouTube Dancing With the Devil documentary.

Lovato attempted to get sober in 2012. In 2018, only a month after revealing they had broken their many years of sobriety, they were rushed to the emergency room after suffering an overdose of opioids laced with fentanyl.

Left with brain damage and other side effects of the near-fatal overdose that caused three strokes and a heart attack, Lovato is still struggling to get back to themselves.

This is where their ‘California Sobriety’ comes in.

“A one-size-fits-all solution does not work for everybody. Any path that is right for someone else does not mean that it is an effective, meaningful, safe path for you,” Lovato explained when speaking to Glamour magazine. “What I’m encouraging people to do is just make choices for themselves. Autonomy, for me, is what changed my life.”

So, while ‘non-judgey, non-preachy’ Kent may be “super-offended”. It doesn’t seem Lovato will apologize for the way they cope with their decade + long sobriety struggles.
