Lala Kent has expressed concerns over how Demi Lovato has been handling her approach in trying to get sober.
Lala Kent Criticises Demi Lovato’s Approach To Sobriety
Demi, for her part, has been through a lot in her life. She has been open about her substance abuse issues, which led her to be hospitalised following a drug overdose. While she did manage to overcome those issues, it left her with brain damage.
And her response in trying to consume alcohol/drugs in moderation has got Lala feeling irked. In an interview on the ‘Behind The Velvet Rope with David Yontef’ podcast, Lala stated how Demi’s stance sends a bad message to others who are trying to overcome addiction.
She said: “I don’t like to judge, but I actually think that that’s super offensive. There are people out there who work their ass off to never take themselves out of reality and to never place themselves in an altered state.” One of the reasons why Lala got offended was because she has been through this journey herself.
Lala took it upon herself to get sober in 2018, especially since the passing of her father. Given how precious and short life can be, Lala was outraged at the cavalier approach that Demi was taking to life. After all, many would jump at the chance to have what Demi has.
She added: “So to say that you’re, like, California sober or this type of sober is extremely offensive.” And she continued to fire back at Demi by questioning whether she really wants to get free from addiction. She highlighted how Demi’s take on it has left her in a vulnerable position and open to substance abuse in the future.
It would only take extreme stress for that to happen again, and the pandemic is not going to make things any easier. That is why Lala does not believe Demi is sober.
She continued: “I’ve been in rooms with men and women who have given up everything just to not pick up. You’re not sober if you’re drinking or you’re smoking weed. You are not sober.” Lala certainly does not mince her words, and it will be fascinating to see if Demi does give a reply.
