You can stop referring to ‘her’ as ‘she.’ Demi Lovato has announced that she is non-binary as she opened up about her new identity in their podcast, 4D With Demi Lovato. She also changed her pronouns.
“I want to take this moment to share something very personal with you,” Lovato said at the opening of the episode. “Over the past year and a half I’ve been doing some healing and self-reflective work and through this work, I’ve had the revelation that I identify as non-binary.”

Regarding her pronouns, they added, “With that said, I’ll officially be changing my pronouns to they/them. I feel that this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am and am still discovering.”
The performer added a disclaimer, noting, “I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson.”
In an interview with Glamour Magazine back in March, Demi said that one of the reasons why they rushed their engagement to The Young and the Restless alum Max Ehrich is because they wanted to prove to the world that they were finally on the right track in their life after nearly dying of a drug overdose in 2018.
Yet, Demi says that couldn’t be any further from the truth, because they was definitely “not okay.” “I really had myself fooled, because it was the safe and expected thing,” Demi told the magazine.
“Obviously I cared deeply about the person, but there was something inside of me that was like, ‘I have to prove to the world that I’m okay.’ Now that I’m not engaged or married and I’m okay, I’m like, ‘Wow. Isn’t that so much more empowering?’ It’s not this false sense of security.”
Demi added that her massive engagement ring, which was reportedly worth about $1 million, “made it really real.”
“The second it was off, I was like, ‘You know what? I’m good. I don’t need that,’” the 28-year-old continued. “I just don’t need an object on my finger to make me feel like I’ve got my shit together. It looks like stability, but it doesn’t mean that it is.”
