You may have heard us mention Thalia here before. Not only is she the aunt of Camila Sodi, whose show Rubí, was covered here, but she’s a huge star herself. We talked a bit about some of her classic Telenovelas, as well as their accomplished family. Now, the artist is releasing a new album and she’s opening up about the project. Let’s take a look at some of what she had to say as well as a couple of the tracks.

    Thalia and the Barrio

One of the first ones we wanted to check out was “Barrio (Neighborhood)”. The beat is pure Thalia and talks about being taught to live life to the fullest. It also has lyrics where a young Thalia was taught not to give those who hurt her the satisfaction of seeing her hurt. We think it’s fun, and the singer hits a couple of impressive high notes in the track.

    Thalia Cancels Heartbreakers

Another song caught our eye from the title: Cancelado. There’s been a lot talk about cancellation this past year and before. This song, however, takes a more personal context. The lyrics talk about saving oneself by deleting/canceling toxic people from one’s life. This one has a beat that reminds us of “Barrio”, but it has a unique vocal sound that we are loving.

There’s another song with a member of Banda MS, who recently appeared on La Suerte de Loli, that is a slower song that has classic Mexican sounds. We definitely recommend checking this album out, because it sounds like it’s promising the diverse sounds that have marked different parts of her career.

    Thalia on heartbreak and metamorphosis

Recently, Thalia sat down with Grammy.com to talk about the project. The album is called desAMORfosis, and is basically a combination of heartbreak and metamorphosis. She talked a lot about how the album was fueled by personal experience, as well as personal growth. Thalia also hinted that there’s a lot more coming from her. This includes new additions to her lifestyle and fashion lines.

One of the things we loved most was hearing her talk about having the guts at 17 to stick to her guns and do the songs she wanted, even though the lyrics got these songs banned from radio in her home country. We also loved learning how some of her early work is now available digitally. We especially think you should check out the song, “Love”. Recently, she paid tribute to her early work on Instagram.

The interview also gave a little insight into how she’s kept herself relevant in the business for so many years. She said, “I like to listen. I’m stubborn, but I like to listen and learn, too. That’s something I learned from my father during the few years I had him with me. But that was it—always ask, always learn, always read, investigate, never settle for the answer given. My father was a criminologist, so he always taught me to learn for myself and that everything is always changing. And I like that. I like to adapt, I like to change, I like to go out of my comfort zone.”

Check out the full interview here to see what else she had to say about the project and its inspiration. As well as what she had to say about hosting the recent special, Ellas y su música.

She’s a recent Days of Our Lives convert, having grown up on the nighttime shows of the '90s. She’s also an accomplished writer in many fields, including paranormal fiction. Jamie loves the crazy twists that Soap Opera writers come up with, even though she's sometimes yelling at the characters. As a published and accomplished writer, she knows how to get into the minds of the writers and is usually bang on in predicting plot twists before they come to life. When she’s not writing for Daily Soap Dish, Jamie binge watches telenovelas as a way to improve her Spanish. They also fuel her muse, which tends to upset her readers.
