Ryan Edwards and Mackenzie Edwards will not be reappearing on Teen Mom OG after the couple were let go.

Speculation arose that Maci Bookout, another co-star, had led to the couple parting ways. Mackenzie, for her part, had stated words to that effect previously. But with time, she had a more nuanced take on the matter. In an interview on Without a Crystal Ball , Mackenzie stated how the show simply wanted a new direction. She said: “Nothing happened, literally, nothing.
“We just got a call yesterday from [producers] at MTV. Maci’s agent went above their heads and went to Viacom and said that they wanted to focus on all of Maci’s abilities and whatever she does and that we took up the time on the show that she could be using to show all that.”
But it seems that Maci’s growing influence put the couple on the scrap heap. Given that they were such loyal servants of the show, it did leave a sour taste in the mouth as their dismissal was hardly done with any grace. She added: “They said that when [Maci] didn’t fulfil her obligations or, like, basically didn’t have enough content that they call us back.”
It was not an official firing as such, but clearly, it made the couple reevaluate their priorities. They had gone from being a mainstay on the show to disappearing overnight. That is when Ryan stepped in and did what was best for the whole family. She continued: “Ryan was just like, ‘Don’t. We’re gonna move on. We’re gonna live our lives.
“We’re gonna do our jobs and, you know, have a normal life. Like, don’t waste your time or your breath coming back.” While the couple have had no regrets about walking away, Mackenzie felt the producers should have been more upfront over what they wanted to do.
Instead, they sidelined the two in the hope that they would walk away. That is what exactly happened. She noted: “It’s just more of an angry, I’m gonna show you who’s boss-type of deal. The truth in the matter is, she calls the shots here. This is her show. It is what it is. It’s fine.”
