‘The Young And The Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers show that in the world of soap operas, Y&R has been coasting behind with lazy storylines, terrible dialogue, and nearly zero drama. We watch, we wait for something, and we’re left wanting.
Sure, there’s something going on right now where Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) kissed Adam Newman (Mark Grossman). Scandalous! Big deal. In a soap opera, an out-of-marriage kiss is like beards at a Rob Zombie concert. It’s everywhere.
Even CBS’s other show, ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’, which has shorter episodes has had some craziness lately with Thomas Forrester’s (Matthew Atkinson) creep Hope doll and now a mystery baby with potentially mixed up paternity tests! Meanwhile, on Y&R, Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) trifles through sperm donors whose favorite movies are ‘Police Academy 4’. What is going on with this…
‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Dear Writers, We’re Bored
Yet, we continue to watch. I continue to watch. Hoping, praying, something happens eventually. It’s small peanuts in Genoa City seemingly, at least in the last few years. I’m told it was once exciting and well-written. Unfortunately, I was not there for that. I walked into it off the street and I honestly expected more mystery, murders, scandals, cheating, mystery babies, and more!
Instead, we get glimpses at something but they’re quick to tie it up with a bow before anything good happens. Yet, at the same time, they can draw out a conversation about ice cream over 15 minutes, which is amazing in itself.
I want my grandmother’s Y&R back. I know this year in particular was tougher with COVID-19 and the restrictions they were forced to abide by but you’d think this would leave time for the writers to sit in their thoughts and think of something more exciting. Instead, it feels like I had a paper due for Economy class in the morning so I wrote 1000 words of fluff between my two paragraphs of actual homework.
I’m a writer myself, not just for this website, but as a content creator, I’m constantly writing hooks and episode outlines. I know it’s difficult, but when you have a show that has as much longevity as Y&R with a slew of characters that go back decades with their own development and growth, and the best you can do is a kiss in a restaurant, maybe it’s time for a change.
