Jibri Bell first appeared in season nine of 90 Day Fiancé. The self-described “creative nomad” now spends his days posting pseudo-inspirational content on Instagram. And while he states in his bio that his mission is to “create art that inspires others,” some fans slam him for his latest post being fatphobic.
On Sunday, March 31st, Bell posted a video to Instagram saying, “50 percent of the adult US population is obese. Please get yourself on the other side of that statistic.”

In the caption, Bell waxed poetic about the dangers of processed foods, writing, “Most of the restaurant chains, food-processing industries , and the pharmaceutical companies could care less about you and your family! As long as you continue to spend your hard earned money they will continue to feed you refined sugars, carbohydrates and toxic chemicals to keep you sick, addicted, and dependent on them!
Please make a commitment to yourself to break free of these addictions and choose to live a healthier life that will bring you confidence and clarity!”
While it’s true that America depends on processed foods significantly more than other countries, the logic of Bell’s post hinges on the outdated idea being fat is synonymous with being unhealthy, which is simply untrue.
According to the Boston Medical Center, fatphobia, also known as being anti-fat, refers to the “implicit and explicit bias of overweight individuals that is rooted in a sense of blame and presumed moral failing.
Being overweight and/or fat is highly stigmatized in Western Culture. Anti-fatness is intrinsically linked to anti-blackness, racism, classism, misogyny, and many other systems of oppression.”
One commenter linked The Health at Every Size (HAES) approach, which emphasizes weight inclusivity, eating for well-being, and respectful care, among other holistic health practices, to fight weight discrimination within the medical industrial complex. Telling Bell to, “educate yourself.”
Another commenter added, “Jokes on you, I’m fat and healthy! And it’s completely possible, pal. Fatphobia is real.”
Meanwhile, Tania Maduro, who first appeared in season seven of 90 Day Fiance, was also quick to point out Bell’s fatphobic rhetoric. Maduro commented, “I mean, shouldn’t everyone strive to walk more, regardless of their weight?
Being thin, losing weight, or “looking” healthy doesn’t mean one actually IS healthy. Weight is one of the biggest reasons DRS dismiss people and their issues when theyre [sic] underlying causes aren’t actually weight related.”
Maduro continued, “People in other countries, as you said, don’t have [the] obesity issues the US does because most [of the] countries you visited are walking countries and have better regulations on food and business.”
Fans were grateful for Tania’s succinct takedown, commenting the likes of “yesss!” and “Thank you, Tania! Speak the truth!”
