’90 Day Fiancé’ spoilers reveal that Sumit finally confronted his parents about just his relationship with Jenny and just how miserable he was before in his arranged marriage. When he said that he loved Jenny and was ready to fight for her, he meant it, I expected him to eventually cave but nope, our boy was on a mission for true love!
His parents said of the marriage that they thought “we would adjust” and didn’t know that “she would turn out like this” meaning, Sumit’s wife, whomever she is.
’90 Day Fiancé’ Spoilers: Sumit grows a spine!
We got to see just how miserable and arranged marriage can be. Sumit’s parents thought that, probably eventually, Sumit and his chosen wife would get to know each other and fall in love, but the thing is, love doesn’t work that way.
That may be a clever plot line for a romantic comedy, but real life human relationships are much more complicated than that. It would also seem that Sumit’s parents are very stuck in traditional Indian culture and are more worried about what society is going to say about their family dynamic than what Sumit is actually feeling. They very much want a traditional Indian household for him, but Sumit, much to my surprise did not back down.
He said that he loved Jenny, and point-blank asked them why they woud not accept her. They told him it was all because of the age difference and how it would look, and he let them have it. That’s when he called them out for caring about what random strangers thought rather than what he was feeling.
I went in this fully expecting Sumit to just cave, especially when his Dad started pulling out the fact that he owes him money for the divorce and how much they’ve done for him, but Sumit was not having any guilt trips. And for that, can we just give Sumit a round of applause?
He confronted his parents like a boss, I’m not saying that he won’t flounder in the future, but at the very least, this round goes to him. He stood up to his parents and thumbed his nose at centuries upon centuries of culture, all for his chance at true love. Here’s hoping this can work because if so, what a beautiful love story.
