Hospital workers have compromised the medical records of Kate Middleton. The London Clinic has suspended Three workers who are under investigation over attempting to access her chart.
People Think They Have the Right to Information About The Health of Kate Middleton
The London Clinic treated Kate Middleton in January when the Princess had abdominal surgery. The Palace has not been forthcoming about Kate’s health; they don’t need to be.
Kate deserves her privacy; however, because of the lack of information given to the public, people think they have the right to know what is happening with her.
The London Clinic suspects three employees of breaching Kate’s records and her privacy and possibly sharing the information with others.
The clinic has not determined whether the trio were after a significant payday or just incredibly nosey and needing gossip fodder.
The Information Commissioner’s Office said that they are investigating the incident. The Commissioner’s Office will investigate the employees and take all the correct steps to find out what happened.
The CEO of the London Clinic vowed to get to the bottom of this. Chief executive Al Russell said,
“Everyone at the London Clinic is acutely aware of our individual, professional, ethical, and legal duties concerning patient confidentiality.”
The executive claimed that the hospital takes extreme care to respect the privacy and discretion of each and every patient. Mr Russell stated that every patient was treated with dignity, regardless of status.
The Police and the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) could investigate the matter. He said that
“the ICO will deal with anything as a criminal matter which could end up at the Magistrate’s Court, but if there were any further claims of wrongdoing, such as a conspiracy to distribute illegally accessed information, then it would be a matter for the police.”
The ICO Will Punish The Guilty Workers
The hospital should only allow employees to look at private medical information if they are part of the patient’s treatment team or if the patient gives their express consent.
The offending staff at the hospital could lose their jobs. If found guilty of accessing Kate’s records, they could face prosecution and a large fine.
The officials have asked police to investigate but will decide if they will prosecute the employees. For the London Clinic, this is a very embarrassing situation.
The workers compromised the hospital’s integrity. Their infringement, no doubt, shook the faith of the patients, who trusted that their privacy was being maintained at all times.
Kate is aware of the breach involving her medical records. Princess Catherine and her husband, Prince William, are likely shocked by this news.
Kate is not the person who will allow herself to be taken down. She is stronger than most people know.
The London Clinic admitted Kate Middleton for “planned abdominal surgery” on January 16th. The royal family announced that Kate had been discharged from the hospital on January 29th. At that time, she was recovering at her home with the help of her family.
The palace expects Kate to resume her royal duties after Easter, or maybe even sooner, depending on how well her recovery goes. We should all be supportive of Kate at this time and respectful of her right to privacy.
