‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers confirm that the character of Jagger (John) Cates has returned to the show, but the original Jagger, Antonio Sabato Jr, is not playing him.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Adam J. Harrington is Now Playing Jagger
This time around, he is being played by Adam J. Harrington. Jagger is an iconic character on GH. He was one half of the super couple, Jagger and Karen Wexler (Cari Shayne).
The new Jagger bears zero resemblance to Sabato Jr. At the beginning of the February 2nd episode of the show, Jagger pops by Kelly’s for a burger and runs into Carly Spencer (Laura Wright).
He casually mentions that he used to work there when Bobbie’s was Kelly’s. So we were given a clue that this was no stranger. In fact, we knew him well.
It was revealed that he was Jagger when he suddenly burst into the room where Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper) were in the middle of an undercover operation.
Jagger came to Port Charles in 1992. He was Stone Cates’ (Michael Sutton) brother and a good friend of Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough). Jagger ran with a group of “bad” kids who broke into Kelly’s to rob the diner.
Jagger tried to keep the owner, Ruby Anderson (Norma Connolly), from getting hurt, and by protecting her, Jagger got shot.
After all was said and done, Ruby hired him at Kelly’s and let him live upstairs. Jagger dated Karen, and the two were married in 1994. The two of them moved to San Fransico. Jagger became a cop, and Karen went to medical school.
The couple returned to Port Charles in 1995 to visit Jagger’s brother, Stone, who was dying of AIDS. Shortly after they left to go back to San Fransico, Stone passed.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Antonio Sabato Jr. Claims He Was Blacklisted
Jagger and Karen got divorced in 1997 after Jagger had an affair. Karen died tragically in 2003 after she fell into the street and was hit by a car.
Jagger briefly returned to Port Charles as an FBI agent and was a single father to his son, whom he named Stone after his late brother. After learning that his son was autistic, he went back to San Fransico.
He wasn’t seen again until February 2nd, 2024, which brings us full circle. Many long-time fans are asking, why didn’t the show bring back Antonio Sabato Jr, the Jagger we all knew and loved?
Sabato Jr. has commented that his political views have rendered him “blacklisted” in the acting field. He said that once that occurred, all his representatives left him. Everyone, including agents, managers, and commercial agents, jumped ship.
Antonio had something to say about Harrington playing his old role. Sabato took to social media and suggested that everyone call him John, not Jagger because he isn’t the Jagger everyone knew before.
“I gave everything I have to that character, and I would still do.”
No details indicate how long Jagger would be on the canvas. Anything and everything can change once the new head writers take over in March. So that means that anything in progress could immediately be scrapped.
