‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers reveal that the show is known to be a bit on the “eccentric” side, and by eccentric, we mean weird.
Remember when Sami Brady (Alison Sweeny) disguised herself as a man named Stan. After that an actor Dan Wells took over the role of Sami Brady so she could go on maternity leave.
What about the time the Salem stalker came and killed many of the Salem residents? All the victims turned up alive on an island set up to look like the town of Salem.
Well, this casting decision is on par with some of the wackiest and wildest storylines Days of Our Lives has ever conducted.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Emily O’Brien Takes Over Jen Lilley Part
On October 2nd, Days revealed that Jen Lilley was leaving the role of Theresa Donovan, and her co-star, Emily O’Brien, would take over the part.
The bizarre aspect of this casting switcheroo is that Emily O’Brien already plays the role of Gwen Rizczech.
Lilley supports O’Brien but calls out DOOL for not handling the shocking change “the right way.”  She said that everyone was lied to during this unusual casting decision.
Lilley first returned to the show for a brief stint in August for the funeral of Victor Kirikas (John Aniston). Aniston passed away in November 2022. The show honored him with a funeral and a beautiful tribute to his legacy character.
Jen Lilley told People magazine about her co-star, John Aniston,
“I was close to John Aniston personally as an actress, and our characters were oddly close in a way that none of the other characters knew. So I was like, okay, that would be an entertaining way to come back, shake things up in Salem in a way that would fluster the other characters and be fun for the show. It would make sense for Theresa, and it would also make sense for Jen Lilley to honor John Aniston.”
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Things Don’t Go As Planned
Lilley was supposed to stick around in Salem for a 12-week arc, but things didn’t go as planned.
Jen’s time in Salem turned out to be only four weeks long.
As far as the story, Jen says that the scripts did not reflect what the producer first told her. She was told that her character would be taking a certain direction.
Lilley felt like she was pulling teeth to get the truth out of the producer (who ironically was fired). He eventually told her that Theresa would continue on the show but with a different actress.
Jan Lilley admits she had a good cry in the shower over that one. However, she wasn’t expecting that her co-star, who already had a part in the show, would be assuming the role of Theresa Donovan.
Lilley says that the show decided to bring O’Brien into the role three weeks before she was told the truth.
Jen Lilley remains very gracious and professional, saying, “I am still really grateful that I got to go back.” Bottom line:
Days’ mismanaging the situation wasn’t fair to Jen Lilley or even Emily O’Brien, who was “tossed out of the airplane without a parachute.”
