Britney Spears exposes her grandfather’s shocking history of sexual abuse in her memoir, “The Woman in Me.” June Spears Sr. began sexually abusing his biological daughter, Britney’s aunt, when she was only eleven years old. Her aunt ran away when she was sixteen.
Britney prefaced her revelation by explaining that the men in her family tended to be derogatory and evil toward women. Apparently, her grandfather passed this behavior down to her father, Jamie.
The Truth About June Spears
June Spears was a deacon and officer for the Baton Rouge Police Department. Britney says that June had three wives and ten children. All his wives but one were sent off to sinister and unspeakable mental institutions.
He forced his first wife, Emma Jean, to take lithium, which is a powerful and debilitating drug. Doctors forced Britney to take lithium herself during her conservatorship. Doctors put Emma Jean on this medication after the death of her baby boy, at only three days old.
Purportedly, Emma Jean shot and killed herself near her baby’s grave eight years later. However, there are rumors that June may have killed Emma Jean himself. June’s next wife, Jo Ann Blackwell, claimed that June was violent and beat her repeatedly.
Britney said her interaction with her grandfather was not as disparaging, as she alleges he “softened” as he aged.
“As far as I can tell, no one has one good word to say about the first fifty years of his life. Even in my family, it was said the Spears men tended to be bad news, especially in terms of how they treated women.”
The “Baby One More Time” singer didn’t experience her grandfather the monster, but she heard the horror stories and now knows what he was capable of.
Britney Spears Was Forced to Comply with Her Father’s Abuse
Britney’s aunt and her father, Jamie’s half-sister, Leigh Ann Spears Wrather, publicly share that she was sexually abused by her father, June Spears.
New York Magazine interviewed Leigh Ann in 2022. She told them they would attend the church where June was a Deacon. However, while on the way home, he would continually push her to perform a sexual act on him.
June died at the age of eighty-two in December 2012. Leigh Ann’s exact words about him were, “I hope he’s burning in hell.” Ironically enough, his obituary is filled with glowing adoration for this monster, and it’s creepy.
Britney explained in her book that she feels that her father, Jamie, inherited his poor treatment of his family from his father.
Just as June forced his wives into mental institutions, Britney’s father forced the ‘Toxic’ singer into mental facilities.
Some facilities provide extended or permanent stays, and the system can trap patients if authorities force them to enter.
Jamie forced Britney to enter an abusive conservatorship in February 2008. Her father controlled her for the next thirteen years, not allowing her to make her own decisions. Britney successfully fought the conservatorship and won her life back in November 2021.
It’s been a hard road for Britney, and now Spears is free. “The Woman in Me” is the first step in her journey toward becoming the woman she has always wanted to be.
