The 100+ million viewers of Rihanna’s halftime concert on Sunday did not include a single Kansas City Chief, as Patrick Mahomes revealed on Monday that Andy Reid had threatened to bench any player who left the locker room to attend. The standout quarterback for Kansas City said to Jimmy Kimmel on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” that his head coach was also dead serious during his conversation with the team.
“Coach Reid told us, he said, ‘If you go out to watch the performance, just keep walking, because you’re not playing the rest of the game.'” Mahomes said.
Super Bowl Champ Patrick Mahomes Wasn’t Allowed To Watch Rihanna’s Halftime Show – Coaches Orders
Of course, it’s not unusual for players to skip halftime adjustments meetings in favor of the big Super Bowl show. For example, top Bengals kicker Evan McPherson was recently photographed watching Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Eminem perform instead of being in his locker with his team last year. Later, one of his coaches criticized him for it.
No Chiefs player was visible as Rihanna performed hit after hit on the middle of the field this year, so it doesn’t appear that anyone disobeyed Reid’s orders, but Mahomes claimed he had at least heard it was a terrific show. However, don’t feel too sorry for him because Mahomes still had a lot of unforgettable events to look forward to after the game, including partying with The Chainsmokers and visiting Disneyland with Mickey Mouse.
The Kansas City Cheifs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38 to 35 after leading a 10-point comeback in the 4th quarter. A hobbled Mahomes was able to make some big plays on his feet and with some smart clock management, they were able to seal the win with a field goal.
