Lady Susan Hussey offered her regrets to Ngozi Fulani, the head of a black British charity, in person after persistently questioning her at a royal gathering, “What part of Africa are you from?”
Prince William’s Godmother Lady Susan Hussey Apologies After Asking Ngozi Fulani ‘What Part Of Africa Are You From?’
After the incident sparked public outcry, Buckingham Palace expressed its disapproval of Prince William’s godmother’s remarks and affirmed that racism is not tolerated in our society.
The 83-year-old immediately gave up her royal role after having served Queen Elizabeth II due to an outcry of anger after Miss Fulani posted on Twitter about what happened at the event. Buckingham Palace has now declared that the ex-aide had encountered the human rights campaigner and expressed her apology- which Fulani had accepted.
A source confirmed the following: “Ms Fulani, who has unfairly received the most appalling torrent of abuse on social media and elsewhere, has accepted this apology and appreciates that no malice was intended.”
Nazir Afzal, who was the head prosecutor in Northern England, had also divulged afterwards that Lady Susan had enquired about his origins. This would then go on to suggest that there was a deep-rooted issue that was then naturally exposed.
Although an apology has been given since then, it is not going to detract away from the fact that there has been a lot of damage done. The response on social media was mixed. While some people felt that an apology was justified, others were of the view that Fulani’s conduct had gone some way to actually generating hate towards Hussey.
After all, this could have been dealt with behind closed doors. Therefore, she was equally culpable of creating a media storm. One person wrote: “Marlene accepted an apology but didn’t offer an apology for the hate she generated towards an elderly innocent woman. She is a toxic woman.”
The sooner this is put to bed, then the better it is for everyone involved. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
