According to the recently filed criminal complaint, the man who broke into Nancy Pelosi’s house and assaulted her husband Paul Pelosi has admitted to authorities that he was there to shatter her kneecaps. David DePape, 42, was charged on Monday; according to court documents, he was trying to abduct the House Speaker by traveling to their San Francisco residence with zip ties, tape, and rope.
The documents state that when DePape came, he asked Paul to show him his wife but was told she wasn’t there. DePape then declared that he would wait patiently for her. He allegedly stated that he would take her hostage and speak with her, saying in a police interview that if she told the truth, he would release her. He would, however, shatter her kneecaps if she lied.
Paul Pelosi Attacker Charged, Planned On Breaking Nancy Pelosi’s Kneecaps
According to him, the Speaker’s broken kneecaps would force her to be wheeled into Congress, demonstrating to other members that there were “consequences to actions.” DePape is currently accused of attempted kidnapping of a U.S. official as well as beating a member of the person’s close relatives. Authorities have discussed accusations including attempted murder and other offenses, and San Francisco prosecutors are apparently planning to pursue DePape as well in the coming days.
As we previously reported, DePape forced his way inside Paul’s San Francisco home last week and assaulted him afterward. Paul, who looked to be unconscious after being struck by a hammer, was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries and is still being treated for a skull fracture in the intensive care unit.
