Shangela, otherwise known as Darius Jeremy Pierce, caused a major stir with her dance routine on ‘Dancing with the Stars.’
Dancing with the Stars: Shangela Causes A Stir On The Show After Pulling Out Fried Chicken From Her Dress
The star of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ happened to be performing with professional dancer Gleb Savchenko in a tango routine. And as part of that process, Shangela took everyone by surprise when she decided to pull out some fried chicken that was in a ziplock bag from her dress.
Thereafter, she proceeded to give this to Len Goodman as the judge was shocked to say the least. This move arrived at the back end of Goodman commenting on Shangela’s ‘crispy’ legs during the episode prior.
However, the saga did not end there. In the clip here, we can see that the host Tyra Banks decides to take the chicken and take a bit from it. When that was all over, Gleb had a lot to say.
In an interview with Page Six, he said: “I had no idea [she was doing that] until the end. At the beginning of the number, Shangela had confetti. She came out of the red carpet and did the whole thing.
“So before the dance, I saw something tucked in [her dress] and I was like, ‘Oh, maybe it’s the glitter. And then, no, it was fried chicken.” In addition, Shangela made it clear that she made the decision to not tell Gleb about this.
This was on the basis that she knew the professional dancer would be focusing more on the technique. Not only that, but it was designed to take him by surprise which did end up working. Although that may have been the case, she was not the brains behind it.
It turns out that Shangela’s mother was the one who came up with the idea. Her following comments confirmed as much: “My mama told me, ‘You need to take the real crispy legs up in there.’ And you know what? That’s what I did.”
