We all know about Jennette McCurdy McCurdy’s traumatic experiences with her Mother, Debbie, which she said caused an eating disorder within her. However, what we didn’t know is how Nickelodeon producers (namely Dan Schneider) fed into that harmful relationship and made it profitable for their own bottom line… or at least we didn’t know about it until now.
Jennette McCurdy says that at 12, when she got the role on iCarly, yes she was happy but only because her Mom’s dream finally came true. It hadn’t so much been Jeanette, but Debbie, who had wanted to be the actress, she was the one who cried when she didn’t get auditions – Jennette McCurdy cared, obviously, she was a child, but probably only because her Mother cared that much more.
Nickelodeon Offers Jennette McCurdy McCurdy $300K In Hush Money To Not Speak About Her Traumatic Experiences On-Set
It seems that Dan Schneider really weaponized that. She said that at one point she was photographed in a bikini and offered alcohol while still underage. He would constantly tell Jeanette to be grateful and that everyone wanted what she had, and was even promised an iCarly spin-off, which ended up being Sam & Cat.
The thing is, while her co-stars could pursue outside projects, Jeanette was discouraged by higher-ups to do the same thing. She described the time that Ariana Grande came in practically singing about her night of playing games at Tom Hanks’ house, an opportunity that would never be afforded to Jeanette, as “the moment I broke”.
No wonder Jeanette McCurdy wants nothing to do with acting. It’s unknown if she actually accepted the money because nothing is actually known about what happened on the set of Sam & Cat, but since she is releasing a book, we kind of wonder if she turned down the offer and decided to make it on her own instead simply by writing the book instead.
The thing is, if McCurdy did ever decide to speak out, even if she had previously signed an NDA, those do not protect any potentially illegal activity, so if she were underage during any of these shenanigans… she’d be safe, but oh what a headache that would be for anyone who was previously involved. Stay tuned!!!
