“Toddlers and Tiaras” star Kailia Posey’s death by suicide earlier in May saddened the TLC community. Now her mother is opening up to speak of the last kind gesture her 16 year old daughter made before tragically taking her own life.

“The days and weeks leading up to this, it seemed fine to me,” Gatterman told E!

Tragically, on May 1, Posey took the family car to leave an empty house and never returned. Her body was found a day later with the Whatcom County Medical Examiner’s Office sharing that the cause of death was “asphyxia due to ligature hanging and the manner is suicide.”
The pageant star had left a note for her mother and her best friend before taking her own life. Then, only weeks later, a package arrived in the mail for Gatterman.
The blanket, made popular on Tik Tok and compared to being a warm hug was purchased by Posey and sent to her mother with a note that read,
“Dear Mom, even when I’m not close by, I want you to know I love and appreciate you. Always. Wrap yourself up in this and consider it a big hug. I love you.”
Posey and her mother rose to fame 10 years ago when the then 5 year old appeared in TLC’s Toddlers and Tiaras season 5.
Best remembered for her devilish grin, Kailia remained on the pageant circuit, winning “countless crowns & trophies” according to her family. She was also an accomplished contortionist and cheerleader.
When discussing the suicide, the family’s statement read, “Although she was an accomplished teenager with a bright future ahead of her, unfortunately in one impetuous moment, she made the rash decision to end her earthly life.”
RIP Kailia.
