‘Survivor 42’ has officially ended, much to viewers chagrin.
An excellent season with an excellent cast, Season 42 ran rings around its predecessor and, after the success of the latest instalment of the hit reality show, host and executive producer, Jeff Probst has announced that the new, 26 day, twisty, turny, advantage-filled format will stay. At least for now.
Though it may seem too fast for diehard fans who, especially during season 42 never wanted the show to end, the competitors seem to be pretty happy with spending less days on a Fijian beach with scant food and shelter.
‘Survivor 42’: Winner Maryanne Oketch Admits to Being an ‘Emotional Wreck’ After the Gruelling Season.
Even when they win the whole dang thing.
Maryanne Oketch, the gregarious winner of season 42 has recently revealed that she struggled to return to the ‘real world’ after her time on the show and was, in fact, an “emotional wreck” after returning to her native Canada.
“I really had time to go and reflect,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “Like, when I came back from Survivor, I was an emotional wreck crying every day, just sleeping on the floor, just a mess having that time to reintegrate into regular life, and then also to see what’s next?”
Maryanne went on to explain that now she’s accomplished the dream of not just playing, but winning Survivor, she was unsure how to move on to the next phase of her life.
My guess is a few extra zeroes in her bank account will assist in helping Maryanne find a new direction.
One thing the 24 year is truly thankful of, is having almost a year jump on the public when it comes to knowing she’d just become a millionaire.
“I’m so happy that I had that 11 months to think about it because I don’t think I’d be in the same mental state that I am now if I had to only like five months from being crowned to actually people knowing that I’m crowned.”
While Maryanne, only the second black woman to ever win the game, did not go onto how she is, or is planning to use her winnings, she did open up to EW about the rift in her family she spoke of during her last days in Fiji.
She happily revealed that her ENTIRE family joined together to watch the finale and see Maryanne be crowned as Sole Survivor, but there’s still a long way to go to mend all fences.
“Just one speech won’t go and fix everything,” she said, “but it can start getting the ball moving.”
One final question EW asked the champ was about the possibility of her playing the game again. “Right now in the same stage of life that I’m in, I don’t think it’s wise for me to go back and play again,” she explained.
But fear not, Maryanne stans, she also abides by the rule of “Never Say Never.”
“You know, five years, ten years when there’s enough all-winners and Jeff kind of rings his phone. I’ll be like, ‘Jeff, yes. I’ll go to Fiji!’”
