Last year, the world was shocked when the Astroworld Festival came to a halt. One woman who suffered from a miscarriage because of the crowd piling in on her is now suing Travis Scott for wrongful death of her unborn child.

    The Case

Shanazia Williamson from Montgomery County, Ohio filed documents alleging that she was “trampled and crushed” at Astroworld and had “serious injuries.” The report also states that she “experienced trouble breathing, chest pain, left leg pain, and injuries to other parts of her body.” She and her husband both sustained injuries and they claim that this event “resulted in the death of their own unborn child.”

The festival took place in Texas and the laws there state that if an individual can claim their unborn child in the wrongful death lawsuit. The lawsuit states, “Defendants’ failure to plan, design, manage, operate, staff and supervise the event was a direct and proximate cause of Shanazia’s injuries and death of her and Jawawd’s child.

They have suffered physical pain, suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, discomfort, personal injury and ultimately the death of her and Jaward’s unborn child.” The couple has also claimed that they are also suing because they will “lose enjoyment of life” because of this festival as well. They are suing Travis Scott for $1 million.

There were others named in the lawsuit as well, including Live Nation Worldwide Inc., Scoremore Holdings LLC, ASM Global, Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation, Valle Services LLC, and a few others. Neither Scott nor his reps have made a statement yet about the lawsuit.

In December of 2021, the Harris County Institute of Forsensic Sciences released a coroner’s report that said the 10 people that were killed at Astroworld died from compression asphyxia. The unborn child of the couple was the 11th victim of the tragic events. There were over 300 people injured at this festival and 25 of those were sent to the hospital.

There are plenty of other lawsuits on top of this one. Scott never stopped performing, even when he saw what was going on in the crowd. He claims that he didn’t realize that the crowd was crushing people while he was on stage. However, there are witnesses that claim that he saw what was going on and still kept going.

We will continue to monitor all of these lawsuits and it is clear that many of these families are still trying to get what is owed to them through all of this tragedy.
