This year, Prince Charles’ Easter message is on point. Or at least as on point as it can be. The Prince of Wales is remembering the millions of displaced people “wounded by the past, fearful of the future” in his Easter message. Here’s what you need to know.
The future King of England highlighted their plight as thousands of Ukrainians continue to seek sanctuary from fighting in their homeland, following in the footsteps of millions of refugees who have already fled the Russian invasion. It comes as the government announced a controversial new immigration plan – to send those deemed to have entered Britain by unlawful means to Rwanda where they will be permitted to apply for asylum in the African country.
Prince Charles Uses His Easter Message To Pray For Refugees
He said meeting the “innocent victims of conflict” over the years, he had found it “profoundly moving” to see the numbers of people ready to invite those in need into their homes. Charles also said it was an “enormous privilege“ to perform the ancient ceremony of distributing Maundy money to community stalwarts at Thursday’s Royal Maundy service, on behalf of the Queen who was unable to attend.
Back in March, Charles spoke out against Vladimir Putin’s aggression towards Ukraine. Prince Charles was the first member of the royal family to actually condemn Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. The prince called it “an attack on democracy” and said he was standing “in solidarity” with the people of Ukraine who are defending themselves against the Russian attack.
In a second statement, Charles had once again condemned the “truly terrible aggression” of President Putin’s invasion and he and the Duchess of Cornwall were visible moved by stories they heard from Ukrainians living in London whose families are in Ukraine. This was when both Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles visited a Ukrainian Catholic Church in central London.
During their visit, children were carrying posters in the blue and yellow of the Ukrainian flag with the words “Stop Putin” and “Save Ukraine” written on them. Interestingly enough, a “Stop Putin” poster was handed to the Prince who held it until aides took it away.
