Prince Charles is open to the idea of having Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as part-time Royals.

That is according to Royal author Tom Quinn. This would have been unheard of following the couple’s exit from the Royal family in 2020. And yet, the couple’s recent return to the UK in order to meet Queen Elizabeth II, as well as Charles may have changed things.

While the visit could have been seen as an attempt to see the monarch shortly before her birthday, the very fact of the matter is that there may have been discussions about their potential roles going forward.

In an interview with Us Weekly, Tom said: “We’ve already heard Charles say he wants to streamline the royal family, [to] modernize it. I think Meghan and Harry are hoping … Charles will be open to [them being] part-time royals, which is what they wanted from the start.”

If these comments are taken to be true, then they are very significant for the following reasons. First of all, it may indicate that Harry and Meghan were not able to fully become independent from the Royal family in a manner that they wanted.

Secondly, this could equally be seen as a way for the Royal family to find a compromise with the couple and prevent any negative publicity coming from them. Lastly, in any event, this may mark the initial transition from the Queen to Charles, who is next in line to the throne.

Regardless of the reasoning, it seems that the Queen would be opposed to the idea. Tom added: “Of course, the queen — who grew up with this sense that you’re either in fully or out fully — she wouldn’t allow [it]. But … Charles may well allow this.”

Time will tell whether this does end up materialising, but given everything that Meghan and Harry have said to the press about the Royal family, it is very hard to see this happening. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
