Henry Ruggs‘ former Alabama teammate Jaylen Waddle said he is shocked by Ruggs’ arrest calling him a ‘good person’ and a ‘good dude’. Waddle explained his feelings about the situation to Pacman Jones and Omar Kelly on the ‘I Am Athlete’ show this week and saying he would never have expected Ruggs to be in the situation he is.

Waddle said out of all the players from the group he went to school with, Devonta Smith, Jerry Jeudy, himself and Ruggs, he least expected it from Ruggs.

“Out of all us that’d be the person that you least expect something like that to happen to.”

He also told Jones that he still keeps in contact with Ruggs to this day.

As you know, Ruggs is facing up to two decades behind bars after he was drunk driving and slammed into the back of a Rav4, killing Tina Tintor. Currently, he is out on bond while he awaits trial.

Waddle didn’t want to talk too much about the situation because of the pending legal case but said that the accident made him more aware of his behavior. “It can happen to anybody. You got your antennas up. That’s just eye-opening.”

While this is a nice moment of a former teammate showing respect, in all honesty, this can’t happen to anyone. Ruggs chose to drink and drive and knowingly got behind the wheel that night. If you’re at all responsible, you would never be in that situation, to begin with. Ruggs was driving over 100mph when he crashed into the back of Tintor, killing her and her dog.
