Just when you thought things couldn’t get any crazier, John Kerry comes out and says this wild thing. The White House’s international climate envoy, John Kerry, has urged Russia on Thursday not to forget about the need to combat climate change as its military invades Ukraine!
Kerry, a former secretary of state told BBC News that it was important for President Vladimir Putin and other leaders to remain committed to lowering greenhouse emissions! Yes, while a country is being taken over, please, don’t forget about climate change!
“I hope diplomacy will win … but equally importantly, you’re going to lose people’s focus, you’re going to lose, certainly big country attention. I think it could have a damaging impact.”
While Russia Invades Ukraine, John Kerry Doesn’t Want Them To Forget About Climate Change!
So, while Kerry says he thinks what Russia is doing is terrible, he hopes that Putin won’t shut down relationships with western countries to work on tackling climate change.
“I think hopefully, President Putin would realize that in the northern part of his country, they used to live on 66% of … frozen land. Now it’s thawing and his infrastructure is at risk, and the people of Russia are at risk.”
He continued to explain that he hoped Putin would “stay on track with respect” and do what was needed for the climate.
“I hope President Putin will help us to stay on track with respect to what we need to do for the climate.”
I’ve got news for you John Kerry, I think tanks and helicopters probably have a pretty significant impact on the climate, and Putin doesn’t care one way or the other. This ignorance comes as Ukraine has reported bombs and explosions in at least 16 cities, with missiles raining down on government and civilian buildings alike.
