Famed ‘Die Hard’ actor Bruce Willis will be ‘stepping away’ from acting due to his most recent medical diagnosis, in a post that was announced by his family over on instagram. They said that they were grateful for the fans support during this time, and that Willis has been diagnosed with Aphasia.
What is Aphasia, you ask? Good question, because we were unfamiliar with the term ourselves, but according to the mayo clinic it is a condition that robs one of one’s ability to speak, write, and communicate after a stroke, head injury, or a progressive neurological disease.
One could see where such a disorder would hurt Bruce Willis’ career.
The family did not go into what caused the diagnosis, and we respect that privacy, but we will say that during Willis’ career he has done a lot of his own stunts, once in an interview with Oprah he even said that he did a lot of his own stunts in the movie Die Hard, so it’s not hard to see where maybe, just maybe some of those stunts could have caused some lasting damage for him.

He said in this interview that these stunts were really hard, and that they really “kind of beat him up in the film”. He also said in a 2021 interview that due to an accident in the first Die Hard film he had two-thirds partial hearing loss in one of his ears and already had a hard time understanding people.
In another interview, Willis’ former wife, Demi Moore, talked about how Willis almost died filming Die Hard when he jumped off a five-story garage for a stunt. He was supposed to land on an airbag below but instead got blown off by a scripted explosion.
Willis was paid $5M to star in the film, which was a big sum back in 1988. Moore talked about how she was able to visit him on-set every day back then. Our hearts go out to the Willis-Moore clan, a condition that slowly robs you of your ability to communicate cannot be easy to deal with. We at DSD wish him the best.
